Tom and Pippo See the Moon (Oxenbury, Helen. Pippo.)

Summary: “Tom and Pippo See the Moon” is by Helen Oxenbury. It is contemporary realistic fiction children’s book. It’s about a boy named Tom and his stuffed animal named Pippo. Tom dreamed on going to the moon, but his dad declared that it was too far away. He often gazed into the sky at the moon until it got really late. Tom ultimately decided that he would go to the moon tomorrow. He fell asleep with Pippo in his arms.
Personal Response: This book is an interesting book. The illustrations are very simple and filled every page. It is a great bedtime story for young children. It seemed like the book ended too early and it makes you wonder about how Tom will grow up and if he’ll ever become an astronaut or something interesting show more that has to deal with doing things with the moon. It makes you feel like a child wanting to go to the moon just as bad as Tom wants to go.
Extension: I would have the students draw places where they would dream of going.
This book could be a good introduction to talking about planets. We could discuss more about the other planets. Color planets and post them throughout the room. show less
