Ramage's Trial

Only Ramage could get fired upon by another British frigate and end up as the defendant in another court-martial presided over by the evil Adm Goddard. Whiz bang, and mostly feasible ending.
Excellent series, sometimes based upon actual events. Always a good story with interesting characters, puzzling quandaries and sometimes quirky solutions. Age of sail tyros should read early in their literary questing for his knowledge and insights into fighting, sailing and British Navy life during these quite fascinating times. Many set in the Caribbean where Pope lived for most of his writing career enabling him to provide very helpful maps, not often found in fiction, for his scenarios.scenarios.

Ramage is assigned to lead a convoy of merchants from Barbados to England. He encounters a British ship which fires on the Calypso. The captain is obviously mad but none of the crew will admit that they fired. Once in England the mad captain accuses Ramage of illegally seizing control of his ship. The court martial is run by an old enemy and the case seems hopeless.

Another satisfying Pope story...I will read this series to the end/

Na het verlaten van Devil's Island doet Ramage Barbados aan. Hij is ontzet als hij merkt dat dat er een vloot van handelsschepen ligt te wachten op een fregat om hen naar Engeland te escorteren.
Hij is voorbereid op de onophoudelijke, hinderlijke vertragingen en frustraties van een groep slecht uitgeruste en slecht bemande schepen.
Hij is voorbereid op hun onvermogen of tegenzin om bij de rest van het konvooi te blijven.
Hij is niet voorbereid op een incident zo bizar dat hij voor een volledige krijgsraad moet komen als hij uiteindelijk in Engeland aankomt.
