I love Jeffrey Archer’s books and have read several of them. This was written decades ago and can still compete with the more sophisticated books of the present.

Marc Andrews is on his own to find out who wants the president dead. Time is running out as he tries to eliminate the suspects. The suspense builds as the danger closes in on him.

For conspiracy theorists, this is a book you will want to read. I always figure, it is someone close to you who poses the biggest threat, because you believe and trust them. They can look you in the eye as they lie and plot against you. Such is the case here. Be sure to look to your right, left, front and back as you turn the pages. You never know where the strike will come from.

I still think of the show more Kennedy assassination and whether or not there was a government conspiracy that brought him down. Why would that be so impossible to believe? Our government is no less greedy and corrupt than any third world country. How far would someone go to achieve their goal? Look around at present day events and you may find your answer. show less

This is the third part of the Kane and Abel trilogy, although after a sparse few words with Florentyna actually being in the active part of the story is very limited, almost to her being talked about more as of an aside than actually having any real impact in the book. I understand this is a severely rewritten book that Mr Archer haphazardly rewrote to make this into the 3rd part of the above trilogy. It is sloppily rewrote to include Florentyna in anything really more than the first couple chapters, after which it pretty much flies as it was with not much added to the original to make it anywhere close to what the first 2 parts had going for them. This was shabbily put together solely to make more money as part of a trilogy where this show more book was not originally any where close to that. It looks to me like Mr Archer ran out of steam after the second book and didn't have any idea as to how to properly finish off the series. So he takes this book that was previously written and hacks it together with duct tape and bailing wire just to make the trilogy and to get the nice paycheck at the end of the day for completing that part of the contract.

This really has put me off from buying any other books by Jeffrey Archer. The first 2 books really had me turning pages and wanting to see what would happen next. The third book had me turning pages trying to find out where the bodies were strewn in haphazardly trying to getting this book to press.

Jeffrey Archer's "Shall We Tell the President?" fascinated me with its fast-paced and suspenseful plot.

Florentyna Kane is elected the first female President of the United States. On March 3, 2 years later, the FBI learn of a plot to kill her. 2 hours later, 4 of the 5 people who know the details are dead. FBI Agent Mark Andrews is the only person remaining who knows when. His goal is to find out which Senator is involved in the assassination. A subplot revolves around Mark's love interest, who has relevance to the main plot, as her father is one of the suspected Senators.

The story takes place in Washington D.C. , from March 3 to March 11. The year hasn't been specified. They showed several well-known buildings of Washington, like the show more Library of Congress, and the Capitol. It was obvious that the story was set at Washington D.C. since it's the capital, and it's where the President lives. Throughout the story, the chapters were shown as the time the chapter starts, so it's easy to tell when the story took place.

Throughout the story, Archer makes sure he doesn't reveal anything until the end. Even the Senator was only referred to as "the Senator" until Mark finds out who he is.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a suspenseful book, although it deals with some mature themes. The plot picks up really quickly and stays throughout the entire book.

The FBI learn about a plot to kill the President of the United States, Edward Kennedy. It is one among a thousand such plots that the FBI hear about that year, but within a few hours, four out of the five people with knowledge about it are dead. The fifth, FBI agent Marc Andrews, attempts to uncover the plot and save the President.

In many senses this is a typical run of the mill thriller novel, set in America, where there is an act of terrorism in the offing that the authorities try to avoid, in this case the assassination of the President. However it is well written, and I found the overall plot quite intriguing.
If you want to read a fantastic thriller, with characters who are not only believable, but likeable, then this book is for you. This one is going straight to my All-time Favourites shelf!
I just plain LIKE Jeffrey Archer's novels. I just wish more of them were in an audio version---they are great to listen to---fast paced with interesting characters.
