From the December 1887 Beeton's Christmas Annual containing Holmes' first adventure 'A Study in Scarlet' to the controversial 'Private Lives of Sherlock Holmes'; this is a scrapbook packed with over a hundred black and white photographs and illustrations: everything from magazine covers to newspaper cuttings and caricatures from Punch as well as many, many actors portraits and especially interesting are the set of two lay-outs published in the last issue of the 'Strand Magazine' in March 1950, showing the rooms inside 221B Baker Street and a street view of the district.
Did you know that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had never even visited London when he first penned the early adventures and relied mostly on area maps available at the time to show more guide his fictional detective around town. show less
