Juvenile Fiction. Picture Book Fiction. HTML:

Edward's classmates are all excited, but Edward isn't quite ready for school. Edward Bear is starting school. He's all dressed. He's had his breakfast. And he has his Bunny. At school everyone else is happy and busy. The teacher is all smiles. Everyone is ready for school . . . except Edward. He is just not quite ready yet. As we know, not everyone is ready for things at the same time. It's just fine to be Almost Ready. The Edward Almost Ready series is recommended for children ages two through six.

I adore this book and the other two books about Edward. It's SO RARE to find a children's book about a child who attempt something and decides he is NOT ready for it! Every other children's book seems to have the theme that if you try something, and overcome your fears, you will just love it and all will be fine. In this book, Edward tries preschool and is just not ready, although the school is comforting and kind. The wise teacher and parents decide to take him out of the school. I was shocked that many people criticized this book like it was going to erode mankind. Is it so horrible for a child to not be ready for the next stage of life? I love almost anything Rosemary Wells has written, but I think this one is my very favorite! ( )
