by Eric Copeland

Description
Fraser has always wanted a dog, but when Dad brings home a large sheepdog named Milton, it is not the gentle puppy Fraser wanted – far from it. The new dog is a menace to Fraser, knocking him down, jumping all over him, and dragging him along on their walks. All the while Fraser’s dad thinks Milton can do no wrong. He even builds a doghouse for Milton, which the dog promptly destroys. Could Milton ever be a pet for Fraser? It is not many fathers who can see themselves through their show more children’s eyes, but Eric Copeland succeeds in recreating how ridiculous – and funny – he looked to his son. show lessTags

Long for a picture book format, this story was entertaining nonetheless. I can easily identify with the child's perception of his father as being more in love with the dog than he was. The silliness of the illustrations did a marvelous job of illuminating that. The fact that this was written by an author who came at it from the father's point of view made it all the more interesting. This is a fun book, but the reader needs to be aware that this will take a few extra minutes to go through. It's worth the time though.
