Bernard is the founder and CEO of the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York, which conducts aggressive outreach programs in the community for inner-city children, the elderly, and the incarcerated. He has served as the president of the Council of Churches of the City of New York and on the board of directors of the Brooklyn.
