"Gröna vintern" kallar Sven Delblanc sommaren 1978 då regnet föll och människorna frös. Han skrev om svensk litteratur från Rökstenen till Strindberg. Behandlade på vägen också landskapslagarna, Stiernhielm, Lithou (Sveriges störste diktare under 1700-talet), Bellman och Tegnér. Dessemellan fick han besök av gestalter som Don Quijote, Hedebybor, sin unga kollega Bunny Boy, Kettil Kyhle och mötte den slitne jockyn Schocky, när han skulle hålla föredrag i show more Strindberg-Sällskapet.
