I wanted to like this story, and in many ways I do. It is lighthearted and funny, full of clever wordplay on names that made me smile. However it is so very focussed on conveying the "princesses don't need a prince" message, and bringing the princess into the modern age, that it is also clunky and awkward at times. My young daughter was fairly uninterested in it, and never requested that we re-read it. In fact, when I was sorting through her picture books recently she had no memory of this book at all.
