Oh, oh, oh. I'm still riding high after finishing "Noah" by Jacquelyn Frank, book five of her 'Nightwalkers' series. This series has everything I want in a paranormal romance/urban fantasy: mega-hot heroes, strong heroines, vampires, demons, and weres (Oh, my).

Kestra is a successful mercenary who uses her intelligence, agility, and highly trained body. She's also a woman who has suffered horrible loss and lives with survivor guilt every day. Until one evening, on a mission gone bad, she's saved by a walking wet dream that screams danger to her highly trained senses. And even though she knows they've never met, he somehow seems familiar...

Noah is the King of the Demons, but he's alone. For the last six months, he has struggled with his show more demon urges more than ever before because he's been dreaming of his mate but doesn't know her name or her face. When he finally finds her, it's only to watch her die...and he snaps. He risks everything on a daring experiment to warp time to save her. But even saving her may not be enough, because now he has to find a way to win the heart of a woman so scarred...she may not be able to love. With enemies closing in and Samhain only days away, the clock is ticking for Noah.

I adore this series. And Noah's book is everything I'd hoped it would be. His woman isn't perfect, but she's perfect for him. And Noah must admit his weaknesses to win her heart...a King...admit weakness? This series is so detailed, so intricate, so enthralling--I don't think it's possible to read just one! And the best news is that it's not over. Jacquelyn Frank intends to drive the plot in a new direction with the publication of "Ecstasy: The Shadowdwellers" to be released in early January 2009. You can bet I'll be waiting at the bookstore.

You know, I've read all the books in this series. It would've gotten a 4 (or 5) had I not been expecting something else. In this series, my expectation was that the villian in the previous books would have been dealt with. I was expecting this humongous showdown between the protagonist and the villian. I was expecting Noah to remain truly alpha. I think my biggest disappointment was with Syreena, although not a major player in this book, she nonetheless aggravated me the most. I still love this series, the characters and this book, but my expectation got in the way.

If reviewing objectively, this was an exciting book. The characters are well written and the world built by this author is fun to read about. Isabella the first female show more character introduced in this series is AWESOME and I love her most. I still recommend this series to others; but again those expectations dampened by excitment some. show less

Sweet Demons!

For the past six months, Noah has been having dreams of a mysterious female. He doesn't know her name, but he craves the pleasures he finds in her presence. As Samhain once again approaches, Noah's dreams force him into action to seek his destined mate. He enlists the help of the Druid, Corinne, to help him make contact and find her. He's forced to make some selfish choices that have the potential to alienate his closest friends and family to save Kestra. She's everything he could have ever hoped for in a mate, however Kestra is less than forthcoming to his attentions, no matter how sincere or noble. Can he win her heart and make her his?

Kestra, a former Marine turned mercenary is show more highly skilled in combat, a dare devil and thrill seeker. She keeps men at a distance and desires any type of romantic entanglement even less. Her last job goes bad when her client tries to have her killed. At the last minute she is saved by her dream come to life. Noah makes her feel all kinds of things. Too much in fact that she runs. Now that she has been touched, her transformation has begun. Will she let him close enough to help her or will she succumb to her fears?

This had to have been the darkest story in this series (then again there is one book left, so who knows). Kestra's history is horrific, and it explains so much about the type of person she has become, and it also explains the way she feels about men in general. I can see why Noah would be attracted to her, destined mate aside. She's a kick-ass heroine with skills that would make any King, but especially this King very proud. She's a brilliant strategist, she's intelligent, and she likes to play with things that go boom.

I wanted to yell and scream at her for leaving her walls up almost to the very last page of this book, but in the end even I have to push my lecherous feelings for Noah aside and admit that that was just how they were going to get through this new phase in their lives together.

Noah was the big surprise. Throughout all four books, he's been incredibly stoic and rather composed. I had no idea that he was could be so ...... so hot!

"I swear to you I can never do anything to hurt you. I need you to understand that. It is impossible. Hyperactive lovemaking aside, I will never willingly harm you. Do you believe that?"

Yes, he said hyperactive lovemaking. He can and he does outdo Jacob, Elijah, Gideon and Damien. Now that's saying something.

It was no surprise that all kinds of problems culminated all at once. Along with dealing with Kestra's hesitancy to let him in (her heart), he also has to deal with enemies getting more brazen and vicious, and he has to deal with his own fears and pain that come with loving someone so fiercely. It would be easy to say that I wanted to smack both our H/H on many occasions, but their struggle to acknowledge their flaws, as well as each others did feel realistic to me. I try not to fall into the trap of condemning the characters when I know the inevitable ending. My point is, I know it, but they don't, and the pleasure of reading this is seeing how they get there.

Another thing I love about Ms Frank's writing is the humor she infuses into these serious characters. They may not be human, but it's nice to see that they have traits that make them very likeable and lovable.

The ball struck the wall dead center.

And bounced off it in an arcing return toward them. Instantly they were both in motion, springing away fro the unknown threat. Kes rolled over the bed and dropped off the far side, and Noah landed like a cat behind her. They both leaned around to see what the ominous little green ball would do next.

I was not disappointed with this book. On to the last one :(

Last (for now), but definitely not least, in the series is Noah. The Demon King has no intentions in claiming a mate, for his only goal is to protect his kind from their human and Nightwalker enemies. But for the past six months this has become more and more difficult for him. Not only have most of his friends found their significant others, but he has been having vivid dreams of a woman that has him on the brink of madness. When he finally gets the courage to go out of his way and find this mysterious woman, knowing that she is his mate, it is only to watch her die. He risks everything (from relationships to his life) on a daring experiment to go back in time and save her. But even saving her may not be enough, because now he has to show more find a way to win the heart of a woman so scarred she may not be able to love.

Kestra is a successful mercenary who works for the highest bidder, but she is also a woman who has suffered terrible losses in her life. When she finds herself running from danger and lands in the arms of a powerful male, she can't help but wonder where she's seen him before.

I have to admit that this is the book that I looked forward to the most throughout this series. You meet Noah from the first book and you can't help but look forward to the day where you read his story... and I was not disappointed. This book had everything romance, mystery, suspense, it was sensual and erotic. It had the perfect blend of all these elements that made it such a fantastic read. Kestra's story was heartbreaking - the trauma and loss that she suffered brought tears to my eyes and I am so glad that she found her mate in Noah. Someone who could protect and treasure her, yet let her be the strong vibrant woman that she is. Obviously there was plenty of scuffle between them while they got the gist of their relationship... with a lot of tantrums, tears and walking-off moments, but nonetheless, this is what made them unique and endearing in my eyes.

Although there are still quite a few loose ends, especially when it comes to the bad guys who seem to be MIA throughout this story, but hopefully that will be remedied when Ms. Frank publishes the next book in the series. I'm not sure who that will story will be about - but I can't wait to find out.

Like all her previous books in this series, Frank has managed to do it yet again-- create a perfect romance novel that is a combination of lust, love, adventure, suspense, paranormal, hot alpha males, and yes, even humor. Combined with the fact that the book setting's 'world' has vampires, demons, lycanthropes, and many other species in it, all of her Nightwalker books, especially 'Noah' , are brillant books, 5 stars! No paranormal romance reader could ask for more in their books!

Sexy, funny, loving, sad, full of suspense and adventure, and filled with the very hot *literally!* Noah, Demon King, this book is perfect. If you're already a fan, then you've probably already read it or you are reading it right now. And if you are not, then show more I've got to ask : "Why not?!"

Oh, and a little note to all potential readers out there? Grab a bunch of tissues AND a fan before you read it! Because you will cry at times, and for most of the rest of the book, you'll need something to help cool you down after reading about Noah and his awesome sexy-ness... and his bedroom skills! :) Before reading this book, my favorite alpha male from her series was probably Jacob or Gideon, because they were the first ones she 'introduced' us to (along with some other reasons why I loved them so much), but now I have to say that Noah has taken over the 'Number 1' spot on my list.. Sorry Jacob, Gideon, I promise, you guys are still a close second!

Well Noah's story was by far, not at all what i was expecting in a good way though. It was really good, Im actually a little upset that this is that last book, I personally feel like there are a lot of unsolved problems and a lot of suspence left to some main characters. Over all I did love the book, Noah and Kestra's story is pretty harsh, very tear jerking yet super "hot", there are plenty of side stories that keep the book moving along pretty fast. Over a great book, wish there could be more in this perticular series.
Of this series, this one was by far the best (so far). I just finished it and I want to reread it already.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out to buy this book and read more by this author.
