Veronica Franco, Courtesan and Poet, a poetical interpretation of the life of a historical figure from sixteenth-century Venice, examines the paradoxical situation of a woman whose mind and sensibility have been highly developed - to the point that she became a recognized and respected poet- but only for the purpose of better serving clients. We see her in relation to several of the men in her life of whom she loves and is loved by. Because of her status as a prostitute however, there is no show more possibility of a conventional union. La storia di una delle cortigiane più celebri del Cinquecento, Veronica Franco, che fu apprezzata poetessa, donna indipendente dall’intelligenza vivace e dal carattere intraprendente. Poi la vicenda dell’incontro, nato dalla storia d’amore dei loro figli, tra Carla, una traduttrice divorziata di mezz’età, e Federico, musicista più volte sposato, che si sviluppa in un gioco di verità celate, prendendo lentamente i colori della seduzione. The Florentine Maraini published her first novel, "La Vacanza" (The Holiday), which treats the theme of contemporary female sexuality, in 1962. The next year, she was awarded the Formentor Prize for the novel "L'Era del Malessere" (The Age of Malaise). Later in the decade, she moved almost exclusively to theater, establishing the Teatro di show more Centocelle in Rome in 1969. Though she resumed prose writing, and also has published numerous collections of poetry, she is best known as one of the most important voices in contemporary Italian theater, a writer, director, and producer.
