The Dark Secret pulls readers deeper into the chilling history of Fear Street, and it does not disappoint. It’s full of haunted houses, family secrets, and just enough scares to keep students flipping pages late at night. The short chapters and suspenseful writing are perfect for reluctant readers or those who love horror but aren’t quite ready for full-length novels. R.L. Stine knows exactly how to creep out middle schoolers—in the best way!
Interesting middle entry to the trilogy. We're still following Catherine in the late 1600s, but now the Cataluna has new owners in 1995. We also finally find out how Catherine's ghost possesses the car, though it doesn't make a lot of sense. I appreciate what Stine was trying to do with the time travel and all, but the execution is lacking. Still, it's an enjoyable and fast read if you don't think too hard about it.
