Mixed bag of some of the early (pre-Mulberry Street) work of Dr. Seuss. Good, solid introduction by comics historian Marschall, and some rare stuff that's probably not available anywhere else. Some of the stuff hasn't aged terribly well, but other stuff is still fresh and funny.
Before Dr. Seuss was a children's author, he wrote under his own name - Theodor Seuss Geisel - for humor magazines. These early articles and cartoons are really hilarious!! And even back then, his preoccupation with strange-looking animals was evident. And, until I saw this book, I never knew that he was the one responsible for those zany Flit ads that everyone loved so much. The book is in a sort of scrapbook format that is fun to read over and over.
Great Dr. Seuss humor for grownups.
