Goodreads is saying I read this German book, which puzzled me, but I read it as “Just Like Everybody Else,” a 1980s YA novel about an American girl named Jenny who becomes deaf after a school bus accident. She meets a dreamy boy who teaches her sign language. TW for dying pet and a little girl tied to a chair.
