How can you not love a children's book with the following acknowledgement: "The author wishes to thank President Bill Clinton without whose daily inspiration this particular story just plain wouldn't have come to mind." Besides it's by the Bloom County guy so you know the illustrations are great.
Ever wonder what happened to Berkeley Breathed after Bloom County and Opus? He's writing children's books. Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big is the story of a boy who told one too many lies. It's told in a rhythm like Dr. Seuss, but with Breathed's unmistakable art. While the story is wildly unbelievable, the moral should be evident to children aged 4 to 8 (and parents should get a kick out of it too).
Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big is an interesting book that has a great lesson behind it. It shows Fannie Fudwupper's big brother, Edwurd, cooking up big fibs to tell people on a daily basis. But one day, Edwurd tells such a whopping lie that the army, the air force, and the dogcatcher are called to reverse the damage. This is a very entertaining book and it has a ton of details about each fib and the repercussions that come along with them. It shows how a fib can create such a big mess and how it is easier to tell the truth, which is a huge lesson for children to take away.
This is a wonderful book. I've read it a few times with different vroups and the response is always big. The illustrations, the unusual word choice, and the general over-the-top nature of the plot all make for comedy gold among listeners. Great selection.
A moral and hilarious fable about Edwurd Fudwupper, a boy who hasn't quite mastered the knack of truth-telling, especially when a whopper will keep him out of trouble for a while, and his long-suffering sister Fannie, who learns at the end which is the better course - to see your brother finally pay a high penalty for his outrageous prevarications, or to admit to oneself that he is still one's brother, pain-in-the-butt he may be, and rescue him just this once. A fun and fanciful tale indeed.
Edwurd Fudwupper is a liar extraordinaire who goes too far one day and has to be saved by a most unlikely hero. Funny, an excellent read-aloud, and fantastic art.
I bought this book for myself. It's too funny to read. Anyone who enjoys word play and the sounds of the English language will get a kick out of this.
