I suspect tweens will like this book - it has lots of action, a likeable teenager and a very simple to understand plot.
The problem is, that it has lots of action, a likeable teenager and a very simple to understand plot. And not much else. The book takes place in the future. The Confederation of Consolidated Republics (CCR) has taken over the US by infiltration. Most Americans are are enslaved in prison camps. The White Fox aka Cody, is an amazing teen who picks up skills quickly such as language, lock picking, unarmed defense, etc. The problem with this book is the world, for example, the CCR is essentially a very cardboard organization that makes war and speaks a different language. The CCR's main beliefs (simple living) is only show more mentioned once. Also, if you think too much about this world, it falls apart very quickly.
Now, onto the hero- Cody. He's just a kid. But, he can do no wrong. The worst thing he did in the whole book is leave his friend behind in a safe community because he didn't want her to get hurt. I also didn't like that Cody does a lot of bad things to the CCR. There's a few sentences about his regrets about this, but otherwise, he goes on as if nothing has changed. It almost has a video game feel to it. show less
