Chobits, Volume 5

Although the story remains interesting, we do come across some cliches (which seems inevitable) as Hideki grapples for his feelings with Chi, and the hints that Chi might have, gasp, superpowers.

Did another midnight marathon read last night to finish this volume. My only complaint is Hideki is just a tad too clueless. One of the big plot revelations in this volume is something I had figured out back in volume 3. Also, this volume seemed to concentrate too much on the book with in a book.

Nonetheless, I'm still eagerly awaiting to read Volume 6 tonight and Volume 7 tomorrow night so I ship the entire lot out on Saturday. :)

What little plot advancement happens in this volume is compelling. But for the most part, the characters spend their time saying yet again "omg, I think there might be something special about Chi!" as if they had never thought of it before. And reading a repetitive, vague book about how someone is in love with someone else.

Hideki is determined to find Chi but with no leads on where she has gone finding her is virtually impossible. This is without a doubt the most exciting volume of the Chobits series I've read yet. Totally edge of your seat and very, very good :-)

Very cute series, was fun looking for references to computers in the body of the work. Perhaps dates this series though as well. Had very likeable characters, story was a bit confusing and has an ending that is.. a little disappointing. I felt like the ending was rushed and too abrupt.

Chi is ontvoerd en Hideki ten einde raad. Samen met wonderkind Minoru Kokubunji en alle wonderlijke apparaten weten ze haar op te sporen. Het is een andere omputergenie die haar heeft proberen te ontleden, wat hem niet gelukt is. Chi blijft onophoudelijk streven naar dat Hideki blij is en rent onmiddellijk naar haar baan bij de koekjesbakker zodat ze geld kan verdienen waarmee ze spullen voor Hideki kan kopen.
Tussen al deze bedrijven door krijgen we als lezer een glimp te zien van een vrouw die de boeken tekent A City with No People. Hideki komt er achter dat deze boeken eigenlijk over Chi en hem gaan. Maar hij weet niet te ontrafelen wie daar dan achter steekt.

Over wat een Chobit nu echt inhoudt, wordt in dit deel niets meer show more duidelijk. Wel dat Chi invloed heeft op andere persocoms zonder dat ze zich hiervan bewust lijkt te zijn.
De grootste zoektocht van Chi is naar die ene die er speciaal voor haar is. Überromantische insteek wat dan wel weer hoort bij suikerzoete afbeeldingen van alle meisjes in deze manga.

Het blijft wonderlijk en zeker spannend genoeg om verder te willen lezen. show less
