Description

Detective Sergeant Jose Stepanovich and his elite tactical team were the toughest cops in the Los Angeles police force, handed the toughest jobs, like going up against the city's most vicious criminal element - the street gangs of East L.A. But somewhere along the lines the cops broke a few rules, turning a job into a personal vendetta, and suddenly it wasn't only the gangs they were fighting.

A pretty good fiction book about a Los Angeles Police Department CRASH (anti-gang) unit member who is himself from East LA. Fast read, and clear writing. I'm not sure if all the police lingo is fully correct but the whole book is accurate about the Downtown and East LA locations. Very interesting if you or work near to Lincoln Heights or LA County USC Medical Center. The book was published in 1989 but still feels realistic even if CRASH doesn't exist anymore. The Police Chief is patterned after Willie Williams and does not come off well nor do other higher ranking officers. East LA hasn't changed much since 1989 except that now, working people locked out of Silverlake, Echo Park or Downtown lofts, have no choice for affording housing show more except in East LA. show less

Gerald Petievich has made a career in criminal investigation. He served first as a Special Agent in the U. S. Army Intelligence Corps, and, as a Special Agent of the U. S. Secret Service of the Treasury Department, he spent some time in the Paris office where he worked with Interpol, chasing counterfeiters of U. S. currency all over Europe, Africa show more and the Middle East. He comes from a family of cops - his father and brother are both officers in the Los Angeles Police Department, and he has been working as Secret Service Representative to the Los Angeles Federal Strike Force Against Organized Crime and Racketeering.
