Tom is a young boy who is mentally handicapped. The book takes through a typical day with Tom. The author provides reasoning for the way Tom does things and I think that is great.

The book itself is out dated because it was written in the 70s, but the information is still appropriate. I would use this book when teaching about disabilities. It provides great information about the exceptionality. I love that the book used real photographs of Tom and his family because it gives you a better sense of who he is.
This book describes six year old Tom and his life being mentally handicapped. Tom needs more time to learn and do things than most children his age. He takes special medicine everyday, wears protective padding, and is home-schooled. Although those are just some things that make him different, he's a lot like many other six year olds. Tom enjoys playing in the garden, painting, and looking at picture books. This book is straightforward and it will change the perception some children may have about others who are different from themselves.
Don't forget Tom, takes us through the day of Tom, a boy that is mentally handicapped. Though the book is outdated, the story is sweet and still appropriate.
This book was written in the 70s about a boy who is mentally handicapped. It showed some of his struggles but also things he enjoys doing. I liked the real pictures in the book because it gives the reader a sense of closeness to the character.
Tom is mentally handicapped. He has problems eating, putting his clothes on, and using the bathroom. He likes to sing and dance and he is home schooled. Tom has a brother that he plays with a lot, he is just like every other kid. It's just a little harder for him to process things with his brain.
