John Deely, currently holding a chair in philosophy at the University of St Thomas, Houston, has held positions at several universities in the United States, as well as outside the United States at universities in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Finland, Bulgaria, and Estonia. In October of 2009 both the International Gilson Society and the American Maritain Association awarded Deely their medals for philosophical achievement.
