John Deely, currently holding a chair in philosophy at the University of St Thomas, Houston, has held positions at several universities in the United States, as well as outside the United States at universities in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Finland, Bulgaria, and Estonia. He is author of many writings, including What Distinguishes Human show more Understanding? (2002), and The Impact on Philosophy of Semiotics (2003) from St Augustine's Press. In October of 2009 both the International Gilson Society and the American Maritain Association awarded Deely their medals for philosophical achievement.
