Description

Eight essays, most from the 1986-87 lecture series, explore the nourishment and the mutual, and interdependent exchanges between the press and the society that feeds and depends on it. A New Model for the Study of the Book was added as an introduction to the collection, and two of the original presentations are not included for technical reasons. The 1993 edition was published by The British Library. c. Book News Inc.

I borrowed this book entirely to have a look at Barker and Adams (fairly well-known) reworking of Darnton's communication cycle and did not expect to find such a treasure trove of articles about book history. It doesn't often happen that I take the time to read the articles in essay / lecture collections which have no relevance to my thesis but the quality was so high in this volume that it was a pleasure to do so. Who knew about paper? I do now!
