In 1840, Marty Thompson didn’t share his parents’ dream of going west to California. At fourteen he ran away from their covered wagon in Amarillo, Texas, to make a life for himself. He was befriended by an elderly blacksmith that taught him the trade. After the old blacksmith died, Marty couldn’t cope with the outside world any longer, so he discovered a world of his own inside a liquor bottle. Soon Marty became dissatisfied with the drunkard’s lifestyle and decided to follow his show more mother and father’s dream that never materialized for them. So he headed to California in search for gold. Will he sober up to complete his parents’ dream, or will he be contented leading a solitary life of an alcoholic? It’s his choice. show less
