Despite its brevity, this is full and well-developed story. The author skillfully weaves backstory into the current action, so we get a good sense of Tariq and Jasmine's history without it interfering with their new relationship. The characters are great and vividly conveyed. It's a poignant story with a lovely, romantic flair. And, oh yes... very sexy.
DESERT WARRIOR was too many romantic tropes for me to handle. The story either needed to be complete fantasy or none, the non-Muslim sheik from a insular but woman-friendly middle Eastern country was just too much for me to stomach. The interaction between Jasmine and Tariq was also a lukewarm mess of stereotypes, Jasmine's secret past and shame wasn't very interesting.
A woman returns to the one she loves and tries to repair the damage she did by not choosing him four years previous. Interesting, trust is so hard to regain once lost.
What more can I say about this book? it's a very typical HQN type of romance. AND yes, there are heartbreaking scenes in the book. And it's a must if you are reading HQN style book.
