This non-fiction study of the French Revolution focuses on the Sans-Culottes, a more fringe radical element, mainly in Paris, but also found sporadically throughout the rest of France. Most of the information contained is from 1793-1794 from government dossiers, which of course, is only one-sided. Soboul addresses their role under the Jacobin government as well as the Committee of Public Safety. Soboul examines who the sans‑culottes were (socially, economically), their political attitudes, how they organized, how they acted (especially in the sections of Paris), as well as their goals. Not a lot of new information here if one has read about this group or the Jacobins. However, if one is new to the topic of the Sans-Culottes (without show more short pants) this book would be very insightful. 279 pages 4 stars non-fiction RTT 18th century
