NCLA Review - It’s hard to escape the past when it bleeds into your life from every direction. The first book of this trilogy ended with Tish Amble barreling out of the town where she thought she’d found true love, determined to guard her heart better in the future. Buying and restoring the backwoods cabin she’d known as a child, she thought, would keep her profitably occupied. Perhaps she’d also find clues to her patchy family history—her mother’s untimely death, the absent father she’d never met. Unfortunately in the place she expected to be anonymous, she kept running into people who knew her, and knew more about her past than she did—and even some who wanted to do away with her. Nicole Young supplies enough plot show more twists and unusual characters to give you crossed eyes. You keep promising yourself “just a few more pages” until suddenly there aren’t any pages left. Thank goodness we can expect a third book! Apparently Young believes even “ditzy characters” can improve given enough time and patience—and a good man. Rating: 4—DKW show less
