Loved this one! Lauren depicts a struggle that not only older siblings, but also parents, go through on the daily! Getting a child into bed isn't the easiest, especially when they have an imagination like Lola! I think Lauren does an awesome job with her witty and quirky words and creative illustrations. She keeps the reader engaged at all times, as always. Her words popping off the page and getting louder or quieter as you read is truly so fun! I love that yet again she's chosen to write about a REAL topic. Her stories always seem to put a fun, imaginative twist on a real-life situation- it's my favorite part of her as an author!

I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed is about a young girl named Lola who never wants to go to bed because she's never tired. She would rather stay up late and play around. Her sibling Charlie is forced to try and put her to bed. Every step Charlie tries to take to put Lola to bed is followed by and excuse on why she can't. For example, if she drinks strawberry milk, her tiger friends need a glass too. She can't brush her teeth because a lion is using it. She can't take a bath because there is whales In the tub. The excuses just kept going and going and Charlie needed to fix them all. I thought this was a great and funny book because it's a very true statement with children not want to do something and having a million excuses why. show more Their excuses aren't that extravagant though. Lola was a funny character and I enjoyed the book and I'm sure a classroom of students would too. But, I don't see the personal lesson children can learn from it besides go to bed when you're told. The illustrations were done very well also. show less
This story was so charming about a patient brother who let his little sister go through all her made up stories to avoid going to bed. While the same themes apply as in the book about picky eating, patience and kindness will win over, I thought more about how I could use this book in my classroom. Since I work with older kids, I might use this book to introduce magical realism. The book never states that the tigers or the lion or imaginary. The brother gives his sister's story grace and understanding, believing her and not telling her she's making up these stories. Instead, he goes along with her tales to make the stories real. It might help students to understand how a realistic story can have so many elements of fantasy that the show more characters just accept as real. show less
No members of my family are as imaginative as Lola. Usually that makes me feel sad, but at bedtime her tigers and whales etc. really interfere with the routine. I would not read this at bedtime.

This is one of the full-length books by Child herself, and it shows. Longer, with a lot more going on in the illustrations, than in the mini-but-still-worthy 'based on characters' books.
Although I was not a huge fan of this book, I can see young children really enjoying it. In this story, Charlie has to deal with his younger sister, Lola, not wanting to go to bed. She constantly makes excuses as she tries to draw out mundane bedtime rituals. There is a whale in the bathtub, tigers at the table, and a lion brushing his teeth. I believe Lola's imagination would be found humorous and entertaining to children, and they might even relate to it in some way. However, the dialogue didn't seem to flow smoothly in my opinion. This is simply a playful story, with no true moral or lesson.

This book was a fantastic read. I Am Not Sleepy and I will Not Go to Bed, serves as a great book for a frustrated child with younger irrational siblings. Charlie, an older brother, has to deal with his imaginative little sister Lola. The humor the author incorporates into the story makes the story very enjoyable. For example, “I will probably still be perky at even 13 o’clock in the morning”, is one of many lines that give the reader a good laugh. Next, the illustrations are unique and remarkable. There is a mix of photos, drawings, and paper cutouts all with bright colors. This produces a modern look, which is enhanced by the unusual direction that the font flows in. Lastly, this book is very relatable for brother and sister show more relationships. The creativity that Charlie takes to solving Lola's complaints is comparable to how an older brother will always be there for you. Overall, the main idea of this book is finding ways to get your sibling to go to bed. show less
This is a great book to discuss every day issues that happen to kids. This book was good because of the illustrations and work placement on the page and the message that it conveys. The illustrations were big and colorful. They were interesting to look at and kept me engaged while reading the story. They helped move the story along. The word placement on the page was cool because words were inside of illustrations, wrapped around illustrations or shaped like the word. For example, the word “bouncing” in the story was written with letters up and down which resembled bouncing. Also some words were written in a larger or darker print to show importance of that word. The message in this story was also great. It was about an older show more brother trying to put his younger sister to bed. It showed the brother being patient and going along with his sister’s ridiculous imaginative stories. For example, when he was giving his sister a bath, he had to shoo whales down the drain to make room for her or call the “dancing dogs” to ask if she could wear her pajamas. This book showed a great relationship between brother and sister. It also discussed topics that many students are really aware of and have experience with, whether it be themselves not wanting to go to bed or trying to put their baby brother or sister to bed. The main message of this book is to value the relationship between siblings and to love them even if they may be annoying sometimes. show less
