The Panama Intervention saw the largest use of strategic airlift assets, to introduce tactical forces into combat, since World War II. The objective was to arrest dictator Manuel Noriega and bring him to trial on drug charges, and to restore democracy in Panama, a country with historic close ties to the United States.
