Although it took me a good 100 pages to get engrossed in this book, (not the book, totally me in a book funk) once I let myself go I was totally involved in this book and didn't want to put it down. I read 200 + pages yesterday alone because I just had to finish it and see what happened!!! Although this is my first series by Brennan I am absolutely LOVING it!!!! She knows how to weave a story and present a cast of likable and dislikable characters. I love the hero's/heroine's that you are truly rooting for and the villain's who you just love to hate!!!! She creates those with no questions asked!!!! A great storyteller and a fabulous addition to the Prison Break Series. Only one problem with this............the next one doesn't come out show more until the end of September!!!!!!!!!! show less
Tempting Evil

***Minor spoilers ahead***
Unfortunately, this is not one of Brennan's better works. While the basic suspense premise and character have potential, the writing is problematic with too much telling and not enough showing. There is also an abundance of unnecessary repetition of internal musings for all of the characters, which slows the action and the pacing.
While this is supposed to be romantic suspense, it is more of a suspense thriller with minor romance elements. Joanna and Tyler's relationship is lackluster and their emotional connection feels contrived, especially as she is apparently still grieving for her late husband and son.
Although dark and gritty scenes in books and films do not usually bother me if there show more is a purpose to them, this book contains a couple of instances of gratuitous mayhem that add little to the narrative or characterization.
Finally, it irks me when authors provide backgrounds for villains that ostensibly mitigate their crimes. No, I do not sympathize with the obsessive murderous stalker because his mother neglected him.
Hopefully, the next installment will be better as the plot premise is very intriguing. show less

Jo Sutton's husband and son were killed. Now there are prison escapees who are headed her way as well as a Montana blizzard. One of them is infatuated with her because of the novels she has written. The profilers know she is in danger because he's killed before with the same pattern. Will her friend Sheriff Tyler McBride and the other authorities (and locals) be able to rescue her. It took me quite awhile to get into this novel. Then there was a little too much violence for me. I also felt that the author was a bit redundant and that the book could have been about 75 pages shorter. For those who don't mind a lot of violence, this may be more appealing.
Tempting Evil is a romantic suspense novel and certainly lived up to the genre. Yes it is similar to others I've read, but the characters are so well written that I just love reading these books. Joanna Sutton and Tyler McBride are the main characters. Aaron Doherty and Hans Vigo are secondary characters. For me the characters couldn't get any more real. Aaron is convinced that Joanna loves him because she has written romance novels that he feels were only for him. When in reality she doesn't know he even exists. He will do anything to get her to come with him. I really liked Tyler, I'm a sucker for strong yet understanding men. Tyler stops at nothing to save Joanna, but at the same time is willing to wait until she is ready for their show more relationship to move to the next level. I liked Joanna, she was willing to do anything for the people she cared about.
For me Romance Novels, no matter what specific kind they are, all have an underlying point that love conquers all. If your love is true and strong you can handle anything. I love a happy ending. :) It was really hard for me to spend so much time in Aaron's head. Experiencing his convoluted sense of what is actually going on. I think that could have been one of the reasons why it took me so long to read. Allison Brennan's writing style is really clear and always enjoyable to read. I wasn't really emotional during this book. Sometimes a little frustration crept up in regards to Aaron, but he is written as a character your not supposed to like. This books is part of the Prison Break Series and I will be continuing on to the next book. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys "Cop Thrillers". show less

Book 2 in this series is much better than book 1, and with a little different twist to what is known as a series, in this case, the book's main characters are a continuation of the stories of prisoners who escaped from San Quentin's Death Row after an earthquake. They are all convicted murderers or worse, and have either singularly or in groups travelled in different directions, committing more crimes along the way. Pursued by FBI agents this book tells the story of a prisoner who travels to Montana in search of the woman he loves. Along the way the people he encounters are mostly killed as they are between him and the woman. This man is a stalker, who is delusional and believes the woman author has been sending him messages thru her show more romance novels. Winter, snow, an avalanche, stranded boy scouts, mountain terrain, an isolated resort lodge set the scene for this book and the attempts to re-capture this dangerous man. Well written and suspense-filled as he plots and schemes his way to being with the woman he loves. show less
This is the second book in the trilogy.
There is so much happening in this novel. There is a woman trying to continue her life after her son and husband whom were killed tragically. We have the escaped prisoner who has become infatuated with a romantic novelist, a cabin in the woods in the middle of a snowstorm, a sheriff’s duty to catch the prisoner, needing to save the woman he has grown to care about and innocent people that cross the prisoner’s path. We have people trying to survive this unthinkable ordeal.
Now, that I have finished the book I have to admit that it was a fantastic read. There were times when I thought it dragged on a bit, but it soon recovered and became so intense that it was difficult to put the book down.
From show more what I have read about this author, I am impressed and will continue to look for her books. show less

Good romantic suspense with lots of fast paced action. It was interesting how the plot jumped into the middle of the romance concentrating on the heroine's growth and hero's steadfastness. An escaped convict is obsessed with writer Jo and sheriff Tyler is trying to catch him.
