Tormented Civil War veteran Capt. Nathan Algren is coerced by a mercenary officer to train the Japanese Emperor's troops in the use of modern weaponry. Opposing this modernization are the samurai warriors who are holding fast to their traditions of honor, despite their strategic disadvantage. 2022 movie #65. Cruise plays burnt out Civil War vet Capt. Algren. He's lured to Japan to help train the Emperor's new army but gets captured by a samurai band and learns to love and be accepted by their culture. Very good and well made movie.
