This was a one-off novel by the winner of the 1975 Gollancz/Sunday Times SF Competition. It tells the story of Tansis, who is marooned on a planet where he cannot survive and where there is no chance of rescue.

He is not rescued. He does not survive. He takes 187 pages to die.

A clever and well-written book, but not one for the darker moments of the soul.

Il tema classicissimo dell'uomo rimasto solo: ha illustri natali (Robinson Crusoe) e molto seguito nella SF. Sto leggendo "Venere sulla conchiglia", ho sempre sottomano "Guida galattica per gli autostoppisti". Questo romanzo si avvicina più all'archetipo illustre, per il taglio pratico e assieme senza le vie di scampo - per autore e lettori - molto diverso dalla fantascienza divertita e divertente che mi è venuta in mente, forse per contrasto.
Bellissimo, tristissimo e opera letteraria a tutto tondo, si raccomanda a tutti, anche a chi non ami il genere in particolare. E' un romanzo triste. Ma l'invenzione di un mondo, e del modo dinamico e ostinato di rapportarsi ad esso, e l'incontro "impossibile" con vite "altre" e tuttavia show more empatiche e vicine per quanto è possibile,davvero non credo si scordino facilmente. show less
