I really enjoyed this. The author also wrote medieval romances and that's pretty much what this is, moved forward a few centuries and a different locale but full of priests and soldiers and damsels who are really stronger than most men and exotic barbarians. The indigenous female can't control her passions and betrays her clan, the white female escapes from her Iroquois captors and saves the hero...But it was a look at the Huron missions right at their very end as the Huron were wiped out by the Iroquois. The mission of the Jesuits is taken uncritically though interestingly at least never in the narration (that I can remember). A good read if a bit dated in outlook but worth a close look at a pivotal moment in history.
