I abandoned this book after 150 pages. I read all of the Jaz Parks books up until this one and I finally couldn't stomach Rardin's inexperienced narration, especially in relation to explaining complex details, outlining a series of events and filling the reader in on an ongoing plot when the novel begins. I stuck it out with the preceeding novels in the series because I really like the characters and the romance between Jaz and Vayl. Too bad that relationship never amounted to anything! It is clear that Rardin is simply stringing the reader along with the hopes of another breathtaking paranormal-romance relationship so that suckers like me will read five books instead of one. Psht!
I have a soft spot for Jaz and Vayl, and I’ve been reading the “Bite” series on release since the first one. Jaz in particularly is kooky, borderline psychotic but in an endearing way. Her character comes out with some of the most bizarre one liners I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading, many of which are worthy of an eye roll, but there is no doubt that these books have a unique style.
So, I was a little disappointed with this one and found it really hard to get through. I think that was mostly that ghosts tick my “ick” factor box very nicely (I have no issue with vampires and flesh eating demons but bring in a ghost and I get the creeps), and this story is set at GhostCon in Scotland. Turns out there are lots and lots of show more ghosts (and other undead spirits) at GhostCon. The plot didn’t make a huge amount of sense and the Samos connection read like Rardin couldn’t think up a new Big Bad, but it’s a pacy read with a vibrant voice for all that. Provided you don’t mind reading ghost stories late at night *shiver*. show less
Don't get me wrong I LOVED the story, the humour, the growing relationship between Jaz and Vayl, Cole's eventual acceptance that he can't have Jaz but there was one thing that left me a bit flumoxed. Jaz's dad Albert, he never discovers that Vayl is a vampire. He overhears that Vayl's a vampire a few times, he even sees the evidence for himself, Jaz hints at it as well but he never realises it. I kept waiting for the lightbulb to go on inside his head and for him to make a big thing over the fact that Vayl is undead. It never happens and I'm a bit disappointed about it.

I also really missed Bergman as did Jaz but that was deliberate, bloody politicians trying to strip Jaz of her allies making it less likely for her to survive her show more mission but hopefully we'll see him in the next book. I really liked seeing more of Jaz's parents, why her mother deserves to be in hell and Albert finding out why Jaz hates her so much. All in all, a very entertaining read. I'm looking forward to seeing what Vayl's solution is to the political problem in the next book, BITE MARKS which may get both him and Jaz either fired or dead. show less
Lighthearted and fun, but not as captivating as some of her earlier books. I am growing tired of the unresolved romantic tension between the two main characters.
I love the characters in this book, all of them are so interesting. Not the best writing, nor the best story line, but the characters, they carry the book fantastically ! I could read it many times and not get enough. JR's novels just get better and better.
Fav Quote from book-""When I bite you, it'll be because I want to make your toes curl and your hair stand on end. And you won't need stitches afterward. You'll need crutches.""
Jaz, Vayl, Cole and her Jaz's father head off to the Scottish Highlands for some twisted fun among ghosts, demons and crazed relatives. They are there to prevent the assassination of a nasty coven leader. Albert, Jaz’s father, gives her plenty of opportunities for both funny and sarcastic banter. Jack (the show more dog) is along and brings nothing but humor to his part. The growing relationship between Jaz and Vayl, is twisting nicely along. Non stop action, and kept me guessing. A UF book. show less
This is the fifth book in the Jaz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin. I thought it was a good addition to the series and I really enjoyed reading it.

In this book Jaz and Vayl are sent to a Ghost Convention to stop the assassination of one of the heads of a coven in the area. Jaz's dad ends up tagging along on the mission and Cole is also part of the party. Jaz gets dragged into some interesting situations with the local demons, ghosts, and witch coven. You learn a lot more about Jaz's history.

This was a great book. It is well-written and fast paced. It was nice to have Jaz and Vayl finally make some progress in their relationship. I do love that these books manage to have some sexy scenes but no explicit sex; it's nice to have the element show more there and it's even nicer that it doesn't take up all of the plot. Bergman and Cassandra were noticeable for theirabsence ; although there were plenty of interesting characters at the Ghost Convention to keep the reader occupied. There weren't as many nifty gadgets as usual but the story didn't suffer from that either. I still think Vayl is my favorite character; he has the coolest vampire powers ever. Jaz is continuing to develop interesting strengths of her own with her use of fire.

I continue to really enjoy this series. It is in the top five for paranormal series that I really love. I love that these books continue more focused on action and adventure, than on romance. There os a bit of something for everyone in this series; action, adventure, guns, gadgets, ghosts, demons, vampires.

I look forward to the next book "Bite Marks" which is scheduled for an October 2009 release.

Jennifer Rardin is consistently out doing herself with every book she writes in the Jaz Parks Series. I was exceptionally happy with the turn of events in regards to the relationship with Vahl and Jaz. Jaz's father was an interesting twist to this new book, it added comedy and a closer look into Jaz's past. I was very impressed by the ending of this book with reintroduction of Jaz's mother , and the events involving Samos and King Brude. This book was very well sculpted I did not find any part in this story that I felt even vaguely overwhelmed by the amount happening. While that has been a minor problem with some of the other books in this series. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book, like always.
