La narcheska Elliania a quitte avec ses hommes la cour de Castelcerf pour retourner sur ses îles d’outre-mer. Dans quelques mois, le prince Devoir la rejoindra pour y affronter un dragon, et tenir ainsi sa promesse. Fitzchevalerie, l’ancien assassin royal, dispose de ce laps de temps pour parvenir a créer autour de Devoir un clan d’artiseurs qui devra le protéger lors de ce voyage. Mais les candidats sont rares, et l’attention de Fitz est bientot requise ailleurs : les Pie continuent de mettre a mal l’action politique de la reine Kettricken en faveur des Vifiers. Et la rumeur voudrait que leur chef, le manchot Laudevin, soit de retour. Or Fitz sait pertinemment qu’il n’est pire ennemi que celui que l’on a mutile…

Robin Hobb was born in California but grew up in Alaska. It was there that she learned to love the forest and the wilderness. She has lived most of her life in the Pacific Northwest and currently resides in Tacoma, Washington. She is the author of five critically acclaimed fantasy series: The Rain Wilds Chronicles (Dragon Keeper, Dragon Haven, show more City of Dragons, Blood of Dragons), The Soldier Son Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy, The Liveship Traders Trilogy, and The Farseer Trilogy. Under the name Megan Lindholm she is the author of The Wizard of the Pigeons, Windsingers, and Cloven Hooves. The Inheritance, a collection of stories, was published under both names. Her short fiction has won the Asimov's Readers' Award and she has been a finalist for both the Nebula and Hugo awards.
