Known for her recollections of living on a Hebridean island, Lillian Beckwith has taken us further back to the years before WWII when she was a child helping out at her father’s corner shop. This book is a charming social history and a remembrance of a time gone by when the grocer was at the centre of the community.
A loving memoir of the author's childhood growing up "above the shop" of her father's grocer business in a Cheshire town between the World Wars. My personal favourite of all of her books.
