Wake the Dead has not won any awards so far.
Wake the Dead by Monica A. Harris is a story focusing on a young boy named Henry that is so loud, he manages to wake the dead. This pun filled story focuses on his long day of trying to return them back to their graves.
I found the book sleeve's suggestion of ages 4-8 to be wishful thinking. A lot of the colloquialisms would be lost on such a young audience, or end up leading to many questions on the meaning of each one. Every page of this book has a pun on it, if not a few. The illustrations are attractive and creative, giving a lot of personality to each of the skeletons in the book. After a few pages I found the puns to be a bit overwhelming, and seemed to lead the storyline heavily. ("The show more dead worked their fingers to the bone pushing up daisies." ect.) All in all this book was a quick read, but felt as though it should be for an older audience with a firm grasp of english slang and phrases. show less

Funny with the play on words and such, really long for storytime, pretty much over kids heads-A little boy makes so much noise he wakes the dead, then after a tour of the city, lots of puns intended, he has to put the dead back to bed.
It was truly a drop-dead punny book.
Henry makes so much noise, he literally wakes the dead.
