Description

This text approaches the subject of how everyone plays with language in an informed but light-hearted way. Beginning by showing how we all use the hidic (playful) function of language, the author then investigates why we do and where the impulse to break the rules of language comes from.

This is an extraordinarily enjoyable little book about language play, suitable not only for people who are interested in linguistics, but also anyone who enjoys manipulating and playing with words and language. It's educational without ever really feeling so, as it's written in Crystal's typical engaging, light-hearted style. Highly recommended.
a good and humorous look at the way we look at language and how we learn it.
