Dick Bruna was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands on August 23, 1927. He worked in his father's publishing company designing posters, promotional materials, and book covers for detective novels. His children's books were a side project at first, but was what he became best known for. He wrote and illustrated 124 books for children including The show more Apple, Miffy, and Miffy at the Zoo.
