Colin Diente de Piedra es el líder de la tribu enana de los calnar, en el reino de Thorin. Las hordas de un perverso mago atacan dicho reino y ponen fin a una época y un estilo de vida. Colin y parte de su pueblo se exilian, adoptando el nombre de hylars, en busca de la tierra prometida que un anciano de la tribu ha visto en sueños.
