Description
Pickled...Then PottedAll that remains of Lula Mae Wiggins-who drowned in a bathtub of cheap champagne on New Year's Eve-now sits in an alleged Etruscan urn in Savannah, Georgia. Further north, at the Den of Antiquity antique shop in Charlotte, North Carolina, plucky proprietor Abigail Timberlake is astonished to learn that she is the sole inheitor of the Wiggins estate. Late Aunt Lula Mae was, after all, as distant a relative as kin can get.
Arriving in picturesque Savannah, Abby makes a show more couple of startling discoveries. First, that Lula Mae's final resting pot is more American cheap than Italian antique. And second, that there was a very valuable 1793 one-cent piece taped to the inside lid. Perhaps a coin collection worth millions is hidden among the deceased's worldly possessions-making Lula's passoing more suspicious than orginally surmised. With the strange appearance of a voodoo preistess coupled with the disturbing disappearance of a loved one-and with nasty family skeletons tumbling from the trees like acorns-Abby needs to find her penny auntie's killer p.d.q...or she'll be up to her ashes in serious trouble!

I really enjoy the Tamar Myers mysteries, this is from the Den of Antiquity series. Abby is the sole heir to an Aunt's estate that she didn't know she even had. The Aunt passed away on New Year's Eve in a bathtub full of cheap champagne. In her Aunt's will she has designated which Urn she wants her cremains placed. The mortician in charge of the cremains however finds a penny inside that may be worth thousands. Thus starts this book.
Rendezvous Review: When an unknown aunt drowns in a bathtub of cheap champagne, she makes Abigail Timberlake, owner of Den of Antiquity Antique Shop, her heir. Accompanied by her Mama and two friends, Abby travels to Savannah to finalize the arrangements. She is given the ashes in a cheap pot in which a 1793 one-cent piece is taped, with a note promising more. Before Abby can celebrate, she is besieged by her aunt's friends and foes and must separate them. Also her friends and Mama lead her on a merry chase. Ms. Myers has written a definite winner, with her zany characters who confuse, delight, and entertain. Nancy McCann
Although lightly entertaining, this story was full of clichés, and the murder and kidnapping were not very suspenseful. Reminded me of a grown-up Nancy Drew.
I found the book to be a very entertaining and quick read, your standard cozy mystery. I admit that I found all the anti-northerner remarks to be rather rude.

A pretty good read. The main characters were kind of crazy and fun. I liked Mama and her pearls.

Tamar Myers was born and raised in the Belgian Congo (now just the Congo). Her parents were missionaries. She was sixteen when her family settled in America. In college she began to submit novels for publication, but it took 23 years for her to get published. Persistence paid off, however, because Tamar is now the author of two ongoing mystery show more series. One is set in Pennsylvania and features Magdalena Yoder, an Amish-Mennonite sleuth who runs a bed and breakfast in the mythical town of Hernia. The other is set in the Carolinas and centers around the adventures of Abigail Timberlake, the proud owner of a Charlotte (and later Charleston) antique store, the Den of Antiquity. Tamar now calls Charlotte, NC home. She lives with her husband, plus a Basenji dog, a Bengal cat, and an orange tabby rescue cat. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
