Description

A horrified Cornelia Copely cannot believe her eyes! The home she left for college is no longer what she remembers when she returns. Her nearly destitute family now lives in a run-down clapboard house, and Cornelia finds herself a stranger to her siblings. To make matters worse, her older brother has become reckless and rebellious. Cornelia quickly makes plans to repair her broken home, but it isn't easy, far from it. Will her strong-willed faith allow Cornelia to make her family whole show more again? When a wealthy gentleman offers help, will he be enough to save her family from disaster?

A story of lovely Cornelia Copley, and how she had to give up her enjoyable college experience to come home, when she is told her mother is gravely ill. She will arrive and discover her family living very poorly so she could have a college education. When her eyes are opened to all the heartache her family is going through, she decides to step up and do all she can to make their run-down house a real home. It will not be an easy task to get all the family members on board, but in the end the whole family will have a renewed sense of faith and hope and Cornelia will find her special someone.

When lovely Cornelia Copley's mother becomes ill, Cornelia must leave her beloved college and return home to care for her family. But things at home have changed a great deal. Her family is living in near poverty, in a shabby and dismal little house. And her younger brother has become rebellious and distant.

Cornelia is filled with dismay and self-pity. Then she overhears her youngest brother and her sister calling her self-centered and ungrateful. Suddenly Cornelia realizes that what they are saying is true--she has only been making matters worse! So she devises a strategy to repair the damage she has caused.

Grace Livingston Hill was born on April 16, 1865 in Wellsville, New York. In 1886, she moved with her family to Winter Park, Florida, where she got a job teaching gymnastics at a local college. She wrote her first book there, in an effort to raise money for a family vacation to Chautauqua Lake. The book was called Chatauqua Idyl and was published show more in 1887. She eventually married and began a family, but lost her husband to appendicitis. At this point in her life, her writing was the only way she could support her family. During her lifetime, she wrote over 100 novels and numerous short stories of religious and Christian fiction including Blue Ruin and Mary Arden. She died in 1947 at the age of 82.
