This is a book about a little boy named Jake. Jake is starting school, however there is one problem. He cannot stop sucking his thumb. Family members and friends all tell him he needs to quit, but it does not help. Jake cannot stop sucking his thumb. Soon, the kids in his class begin making fun of him. He is forced to stop sucking his thumb. A little girl comes one day and asks what he is thinking about. Of course, he is thinking about his thumb. The little girl than tells him she doesn’t have a thumb, but a cat she likes to keep for comfort. As the story goes on the classmates realize everyone has something they rely on, including the bully.

This book would be best for younger grades. It allows the students to see how each person has show more something that comforts them in a different way. Also, by having the bully end up being like them, the classmates are able to see that many times they are more alike than they seem.

Jake's Best Thumb is a story of a boy named Jake who enjoys sucking his thumb. All of Jake's family members try and convince Jake to stop sucking his thumb but Jake refuses. When Jake starts kindergarten he is made fun of for sucking his thumb by a boy named Cliff. However, one day on the playground Jake realizes that Cliff is attached to his blanket. Jake agrees to give Cliff's blanket back if Cliff quits teasing Jake about sucking his thumb. As the two children make peace the story explains how even if not during the day at night children need something to comfort them.
In this story Jake likes to suck on his thumb but his family wanted him to stop. One day when he went to school, this kid Cliff started to bully him because he sucked his thumb . Jake tried not to but at the times he did, and when he did Cliff saw and made fun of him. Soon Jake made a friend and had told him that she can't go anywhere with out her stuffed kitten. On the play ground Jake and his friend found out that cliff carries a piece of blanket around. That day Cliff stops bullying Jake.
