These are all nice little cozy mysteries, set in a small town in Minnesota. Betsy Devonshire inherited a needlecraft shop when her sister was murdered and she keeps getting pulled into mysteries.
This time, Betsy's friend and assistant store manager Godwin has had a fight with his boyfriend and temporarily moved out. While Goddy is away, John is murdered and Goddy is immediately arrested as the prime suspect. Of course, we all know Goddy didn't do it, but who did?
It's becoming more and more far-fetched that the denizens of this sleepy little Minnesota town are all involved in nefarious dealings that produce motives for murder, but who cares when the stories are this good? Godwin is a great character and I love his inclusion in a set of show more mysteries that are aimed at an audience that hasn't been the most historically accepting of the gay community. In this episode, Godwin's character goes from 'sassy best friend' to actual human being and that's a welcome improvement. show less

Betsy Devonshire is the owner of Crewel World and her store manager , Godwin DuLac, turns up at her door, having been thrown of the house by his long time lover, John Nye. Betsy takes him and tries to calm him down but when his clothes arrive the next day, Goddy knows its over. Not knowing of the breakup, John's secretary calls Goddy to see if he knows where John is because he didn't show up for work. Goddy and Betsy go to the house and find John dead. Of course, Goddy is the rime suspect so when he is arrested, Betsy sets out to clear his name, and the investigation and its results are terribly amusing if a bit predictable.
In this one, things get very personal. Goodwin, Besty's manager and friend is accused of murdering his lover of many years, John. Things don't look good but Besty with the help of the gang at Crewel world gets to the truth. I liked this one quite a bit because instead of being someone from a friend's family, the tragedy hits close to home, like in the debut novel of this series. Pretty good.
Another fun installment in the needlecraft series. In this episode a beloved character, Godwin is accused of murdering his partner. The character development is well-written, but the ending left me a little flat. The author ended the book and gave the story resolution, but I felt like it came out of left field. I'm not sure the plotline was completely developed. But, the story kept the fun I expect from this series and I definitely will continue.

Caroley kindly acquired this for me to add to my Book Spiral and I thought it would be a good read for the coach journey back from my day trip to London yesterday. It was indeed, and helped the journey pass beautifully, although I did fall asleep over it coming into the environs of Birmingham!
This was a good read. Dear Godwin experiences some shocking events which can't help but make him grow up a little. He and Betsy draw closer together and the Monday Night Club chip in too. A strong member of the series.

Betsy and her friends at Crewel World are once again embroiled in a murder investigation, only this time it is personal. When Godford's partner is killed just days after their breakup he becomes the chief suspect in the murder. Naturally Betsy is immediately on the case to try and find out who actually killed John, and why.
With little snippets of helpful advice for knitting, cross stitch, needlepoint and other needle arts scattered in the narrative this is a fun series for someone who loves needlework.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
