This book is a perfect early reader chapter book. Students who want to read a chapter book or read a series may love this book about Fox discovering he needs a job and trying different jobs. I might ask my students to share experiences when they have had to try new things and explain what happened. This would be great in a 1st to 3rd grade classroom.
The age level is intermediate, grade 3
The book is about a fox that wants a new bike, but his mom tells him to get a job. He then tries out different jobs such as shoe salesman and pizza delivery guy. None of these jobs work until he finds a bed salesman and his job is to sleep in the display beds, which Fox is good at.
I would recommend this book for the age level it is at, the book contains very simple but foundational words that need to be practiced, along with being entertaining a child would like this book, but it is also useful in the classroom.

Charming little book about a fox who tries to earn money for a new bike. He comes up with several clever ways and different jobs. I also like how the story teaches children the message about responsible.
While not noted as such, I use this book as a Hi-Lo reader (as I can with many of James Marshall's stories). While the language is simple, the characters, decisions, problems, and feelings in the story are not. And Fox can be quite a character!

Fox was always showing off and wrecked his bike but his mother told him that she wasn't going to buy him another one. But if he wanted another bike that he would have to get a job to buy a new one. Fox went to the shoe shore and a lady comes in and asked for shoes that would fit her feet then fox said that her feet were too big and they wouldn't have her size. Then fox worked at the haunted house in the amusement park. Fox had to go into the haunted hose to receive a child and he got scared and he quit. Then fox worked at the pizza parlor and when he was on his delivery he ran into his sister, who was holding onto mice and they switched boxes. Then fox got fired from the pizza parlor . Finally, fox came to a furniture store and had a show more bright idea, he showcase the bed while he sleeps in the bed. Books show that you are not going to be good at everything you do but if you keep on trying and never give you will find something that you are good at. show less
This book is suitable for ages 6-9. It is about the character, Fox, who tries to find a job in order to save up money to buy a bike. The book portrays how people need to take responsibility for their actions. It also shows how persistency and determination leads to success. This book can be used in a classroom in order to give students a sense of independence and confidence in their reading. This would be a great book to let students spend time reading on their own.
These are short, connected stories about a day in the life of Fox who is looking for a job because he ruined his bike. He can't seem to hold a job for more than a minute..until the end.
