I gave this book a 4/5 star review. I think that this would be a good guided reading book. There are a lot of pictures that explain the words that you are reading. There are also a lot of smaller sections of the book that allow you to understand more of what is going on. There are small bubbles that explain the pictures and what is going on in the pictures. I also think you are able to get good discussion questions out of this text. Students are able to read and understand what the concept of the text is.

The Magic School Bus takes a field trip to the desert and focuses on animals' adaptations to desert climate. Phoebe discovers that her quest to save desert animals is totally unnecessary, because the animals are already adapted to survive the heat. Arnold discovers that there aren't any easy ways to take field trips, and everyone learns one or two facts about desert animal adaptations.

This book is a little bit more syntactically complex but still easy to understand. There are also a lot of charts to follow and further understand the information. There’s a lot of information that is easy to understand.
