Basil and Maggie

Maggie's aunt in rainy England sends pony Basil, big-footed, friendly and enthusiastic but not a conformist. He ends up in last place at the Horse Show in trotting, but when jumping is about to begin, the rain comes pouring down, turning the field to mud....

Predictable and wordy, but probably ok for the youngest horse-lovers. Found in a rural library in Nevada; I wonder what the ranch-children think of it.
