We find out about the Abbey in book two and are introduced to the two main characters. There is a lot of doing one's duty and self denial but it's not overpowering and no character is perfect. Joy and Joan are cousins and one of them has an unknown relative able to leave a valuable legacy by the end of the book, and while this is hardly a cliffhanger it does make me want to go on with the next one.
Still one of my favourite school series.
