Giovanni Berlinguer received his M.D. from the Universita "La Sapienza" di Roma in 1952 and his doctorates in Social Medicine in 1958 and in Hygiene in 1964. Dr. Berlinguer has published over 200 articles and 41 books on relations between health and society, bioethics, occupational health, history of diseases, urban sociology, science policy, and show more health policy. He holds international honorary positions at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, Universite de Montreal, Universidade de Brasilia, Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Habana, and Universita "La Sapienza" di Roma. He has been a member of Italy's National Health Council and President of the National Committee for Bioethics, and was recently a main speaker at the World Forum for Health on "Globalization and Health" and the World Health Organization's conference on "Equity in Health."
