Two Halloween-loving siblings cultivate a field of pumpkins in this seasonal picture-book from author Zoe Hall and illustrator Sheri Halpern. They plant the seeds, water the seedlings, and watch as the pumpkins slowly grow. Eventually, when the time is right, they harvest the pumpkins and turn them into jack-o-lanterns, getting ready for the big night when they go trick-or-treating...
Published in 1994, It's Pumpkin Time! was the first of four picture-book collaborations between Hall and Halpern, of which I had already read one, The Apple Pie Tree. Having enjoyed that subsequent title, I picked this one up with anticipation, and was not disappointed. It's quite simple, and clearly aimed at younger children, but I appreciated the way in show more which the narrative shows the entire process whereby pumpkins are grown, rather than just the harvest time, which books of this sort often choose as their focus. In this sense, it was quite similar to The Apple Pie Tree, which was autumnal in feeling, but also covered the entire year in an apple tree's growth. The accompanying paper collage artwork from Halpern was colorful and appealing, in a folksy way. Recommended to picture-book readers looking for autumnal and/or Halloween stories. show less

I absolutely love this book! It has been one of my favorites since childhood. This book goes into great detail with the illustrations explaining how pumpkins grow! This would be an excellent choice if you were doing a unit on Halloween or Fall traditions. The kids really enjoy the pictures! A fun activity to go along with this text would be to carve a jack-o-lantern with the class. This is also an easy text for most kids to relate to, as the characters have siblings and a family. Many children have also participated in carving a jack-o-lantern, so they can relate to the text in this way as well.
It's Pumpkin Time is a story of a brother and sister who plant a pumpkin patch in preparation for their favorite holiday, Halloween. This book does a great job of showing children how a pumpkin grows from a seed to an entire pumpkin and how it ends up as a "jack-o'-lantern." It also provides a labeled step-by-step growth page for a pumpkin at the end of the reading, which makes it easy to navigate through. Overall, this is a great book that can be used around the fall season or anytime a related science topic is discussed.
It's Pumpkin Time is a mixture of a Fall and Halloween book. It shows the life of a pumpkin throughout the book showing that at first it is just seed, then a green plant, then yellow, and then a giant orange pumpkin. The children then get ready for Halloween. The illustrations look like they were made my cut out papers. It is a fun read-aloud book for children during Halloween. It also has the life of a plant/seed in the back of the book. This would be great for a science lesson around fall and Halloween.
Unlike any other halloween story, this halloween story is about a pair of siblings planning halloween in the Summer by planting their own pumpkins! They grow the pumpkins carefully, water them, pull up weeds, then finally cut them and make them into jack-o-lanterns. A very easy read with colorful illustrations. A nice halloween story without the typical scary undertone.
Good for a preschool classroom, or perhaps for ppl who can't get enough of the kind of art that Eric Carle creates. Otherwise, meh.
Its Pumpkin Time is a really cute book to read to kindergarten or first grade students. The book is all about pumkins. They first plant the pumpkin seeds and water them everyday. The green vines start to gorw and they keep watering. Then the pumpkin starts to bloom. Then the pumpkin grows in a big pumpkin. They then carve the pum[kin and make it into a jack-o-latern. The in it halloween time!! Wonderful storyline and teaches students all about pumpkins.
