Description

The unique properties of rubber have interested scientists for over 200 years. This volume presents a summary of the present state of the art in the study of this versatile substance. Chapters deal with both the science of rubber--its chemistry, engineering properties, and rheology--and the wide-ranging applications of rubber in the modern world, from the manufacture of car tires to the construction of earthquake protection systems for large buildings. By also providing pointers to the show more future uses of rubber, this volume will be a standard reference for scientists and researchers for many years to come. show less

This book marks the Golden Jubilee of the Malaysian Rubber Producers' Research Association (MRPRA), established in 1938.
The index to Natural rubber science and technology was commended by the Wheatley Medal Panel of Judges for 1988. They commented:

This index is a detailed guide to the contents of the work, with entries for materials, products, properties and processes, both technical and economic. Long strings of undifferentiated page references are avoided by the use of subheadings.
The index was compiled by Kevin P. Jones, Head of the Information Group at the Malaysian Rubber Producers' Research Association. A librarian by training, Mr Jones has published in the fields of both indexing and the rubber industry, and is joint author of show more two chapters in the present work. He has also been involved in the development of an information retrieval system, MORPHS. show less

The use of the growing capabilities of the computer and sophistication of modern electronics should enable the scientist and technologist to spend more time doing the one thing that he does (should do!) supremely well -- thin... (show all)k. (C. L. M. Bell)
Last words
(Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)Assuming that oil supplies will diminish in the next century, then it is highly probable that this latent potential for energy storage will emerge as a major use for natural rubber.
