Seigoro Kitade, Supervising Editor-An analyst and commentator covering sports and sumo wrestling, Kitade was born in Tokyo in 1922. A graduate of Chuo University, his career as an announcer began when he joined NHK in 1947. He has covered seven Summer and Winter Olympics, overseeing television coverage of the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 1964 and the Sapporo Winter Olympics in 1972.
Kitade began announcing sumo events for radio in 1952, switching to television with the first televised sumo in 1953 and contnuing for the next 37 years. He has been called 'a living encyclopedia of sumo,' and the Japan Sumo Association (JSA) has twice awarded him commendations for his services to the sport.
Following his retirement from show more announcing. Kitade continued managing sumo broadcasts in a special position before becoming an independent analyst and commentator in 1989. He has also lectured and written extensively as a freelance commentator covering sumo, Olympics and other sports events. Kitade has authored a number of books, including several recent works on sumo and sumo culture.
Deborah Iwabuchi, Translator-Deborah Iwabuchi is a native Californian and a graduate of the University of the Pacific. She taught English in a Japanese school before settling into a career as a freelance translator. Her other translations include Sumo Watching, also published by Yohan, and Love From the depths, the autobiography of artist Tomihiro Hoshino, published by Rippu Shobo. Deborah makes her home in Maebashi City in Japan and lives with her husband Ikuo an daughters Manna and Hikari.
